The Opportunity

The Director of Human Resources is the leader who recruits and support the growth our team, ensures compliance with prevailing laws and practice, manages systems that help our staff grow professionally, and helps build a culture that supports the core values of our organization.

Our Human Resource Director will:

  • Develop a recruitment strategy that employs year round networking opportunities for education professionals in order to build diverse, inclusive staff.
  • Work with program staff to recruit  prospective team members and manage the systems used to hire new staff.
  • Improve, document and implement our performance management system.
  • Act as advocate and ombudsperson for all our employees.
  • Work with our Program Development staff to participate in and lead organization-wide activities that build a workplace where employees with diverse backgrounds can thrive and excel.
  • Review, improve, communicate and apply our employment policies and manual.
  • Help train managers to bring out the best in all our staff, and address problems that impede their growth.
  • Maintain and monitor our compensation policies to help us work equitably and attract the best talent.
  • Maintain and improve our defined job architecture so that it creates a fair and equitable structure for compensation and defines a path for professional growth.
  • Use virtual communications tools, including social media and remote teleconferencing  to build community in the locations we operate
  • Mediate disputes and settle workplace problems fairly and equitably as they arise.
  • Work with the CFO to manage and administer employee benefits.
  • Support the Executive Leadership Team in systematically evaluating the strategic talent requirements of the organization.

To be considered, candidates must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline
  • Experience in Human Resources in an environment similar to ours
  • A strong commitment to our mission of achieving educational equity for low-income students of color
  • Racial and cultural competence – an understanding of the role of racism in the inequities of the public school system and demonstrated effectiveness in working through these inequities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent presentation skills; able to project competence and knowledge, and to articulate both mission and solutions
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience leading highly effective teams
  • Ability to think systematically with an eye for continuous learning and improvement
  • A high degree of initiative, tenacity and flexibility; willingness and drive to see a difficult or ambiguous situation through to a satisfactory outcome
  • The ability to work efficiently with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
